EPISODE 59
THE COMING STORM
Scene: Covington Bay Medical Center; the Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Darian Jackson is coming out of Nathan's hospital room as Dr. Gloria Dailey is walking up.
Darian: Gloria, hey.
Gloria: Hi, Darian. I was about to leave for the day, but I thought I'd see how things were going. Has Christopher Sloan been up to see Nathan yet?
Darian: (a concerned look on his face) No. And he was supposed to be here a couple of hours ago. I've been paging him, but there's been no response. I'm wondering why he isn't here yet.
Gloria: He's a very busy man with a lot on his plate, but since this is an emergency, I can’t imagine why he's not here.
Darian: I pray he shows up soon. Nathan's condition hasn't changed since his attack and I have no clue how it was caused. (Pause) In fact, I'm starting to wonder if this whole thing is my fault.
Gloria: Darian, what makes you think that?
Darian: Nathan has been my patient since I became a doctor. I've given him lots of physicals over the years and I've never detected a trace of any heart problems…not once. And there is no history of medical problems in his family. But, I must've missed something. I must've. Otherwise, how could this have happened?
Gloria: Darian, I'm sure you did the best you could.
Darian: (sighing) Not good enough, obviously. I just hope that Dr. Sloan can find whatever it is I might have missed.

Scene: Lassiter Pharmaceuticals; Steven's office. Steven, A.J. and Barton Lassiter are there.
Barton: How dare blame me for this mess!? I'm not the one who wrote that filth!
A.J.: But you are the one who has reveled in this Lassiter-Greyhawk war; taken so much joy at not only defeating the Greyhawks, but humiliating them and making them want to come at us time and time again.
Barton: I was only doing what I could to protect us, to keep this family and our business intact. And to show the Greyhawks that we are not to be messed with. For years I have kept that family at bay and I will continue to do so, no matter what it takes.
A.J.: But at what price? You've already suggested I use the Journal to enact some sort of revenge. I can't play those kinds of games. It goes against everything I stand for and makes me no better than the Greyhawks.
Barton: They attacked your name...your reputation...dubious as it may be. Don't you want to stop them? Don't you want them to pay?
A.J.: Of course I want to stop them. But there's a limit to what I'll do to bring an end to this. And I'm certainly not out to destroy the Greyhawks.
Barton: Really? Well, you should be. Because destroying the Greyhawks...ruining them utterly and completely is the only way to ever really end this struggle between us. And that is what I am going to do.
A.J.: How many more people have to be hurt because of this damn fight? How many people have already had their lives ruined or worse because of this battle?
Barton: A.J., I will not stand here and justify what I have done to protect this family...least of all to you.
A.J.: I wouldn't call what's happened to Brandon, not to mention many others, protecting them.
Barton: You are crossing the line, A.J.. I suggest you hold your tongue before you say something you will regret.
A.J.: Oh, but I do regret something. I regret coming here and thinking for one minute that I wanted to have anything to do with you. I want to stop the Greyhawks, but I won't use your tactics. I won't win a fight at the expense of my own self-respect, not to mention hurting the people around me.
Barton: A.J., you can't fight...or win a war without getting your hands a little dirty. I can't believe you haven't learned that by now. God, you are so much like your father it's infuriating!
A.J.: Really? Thanks for the compliment.
Barton: (bitterly) It wasn't a compliment.
Steven: Will you two stop it!? I thought we were supposed to come up with ideas...a strategy to counteract what the Greyhawks have done...what they are going to do. How are we going to do that when we are at each other's throats!? Let's stop fighting one another and come together. If we don't, we might as well give this victory to the Greyhawks right now.

Scene: Covington Bay Florists. Richie walks in and is looking around the shop.
Richie: Let's see. What would be appropriate for Uncle Alec? I know he loved yellow roses. I think they were his favorite.
(At that moment, Richie heard a familiar voice)
Voice: I think these flowers will be perfect, Miss.
Richie: (to himself) Greyhawk!
(Richie peered around the corner and spotted James buying a bouquet of daisies)
Woman: They're beautiful. Are they for someone special?
James: (grinning) That's what I'm planning on finding out tonight.
Woman: Oh? A hot date, huh?
James: Oh yes. It's a hot one all right.
(Anger swept across Richie's face. He ran up to James and grabbed him by the arm)
James: Richie!? What in the hell are you doing!?
Richie: I want to know what you're up to Greyhawk! And I want to know now!
James: What are you talking about!? Let me go, damn it! Let me go!
Richie: Not until you explain what is going on.
Woman: (shocked) Shall I call the police, Mr. Greyhawk?
James: Only if Mr. Stone doesn't let his hands off me right now.
Richie: (looking at the woman, then letting James go) Fine.
James: (to the woman) We're okay. I'm sure you have things to do.
Woman: (warily) All right, but let me know if you need anything. (The woman walked away)
James: You want to explain to me what this is all about?
Richie: I want to know what you are doing, Greyhawk.
James: As you can see, I'm buying some flowers. What business is it of yours?
Richie: Well, I... (Richie stopped himself, realizing the huge mistake was making) Well, I...
James: Richie, what is going on? What is this insanity all about?

Scene: The Lassiter Estate; the
library.
Nina Tamakai was in the library, sitting at the grand piano, the look on her face intense as she plays a particularly difficult piece of music. Kevin Lassiter, about to walk in, stops to listen. Moments pass as the music continues and he listens, a smile growing on his face. She came to the end, and as the last note echoed throughout the room, Kevin applauded enthusiastically. Nina looked up, startled.
Nina: (gasping) Oh! Kevin!
Kevin: Hello Nina. I hope I didn't startle you. I just came to get a book I was reading. I didn't mean to interrupt.
Nina: (as Kevin walked over to the table and picked up a book that was lying there) Actually, I was just about to take a break.
Kevin: Then I guess this is the time to tell you that you are getting better and better. You're going to be a big hit at the recital this weekend.
Nina: Thank you for saying so. (She paused) You’re still going to come, aren’t you?
At that moment, Harry was about to walk in, but upon seeing who was in the room, he stopped to listen at the doorway.
Kevin: Oh, you bet. I can’t wait, I’m really looking forward to it.
Nina: I’m so just glad you’re going to be there. I don’t think I could’ve come as far as I have without your encouragement and tips on the piano.
Kevin: Anything I did was miniscule compared to the talent you possess. You've worked hard, Nina. You deserve all the accolades you get.
Nina: I just hope I don't embarrass myself.
Kevin: Young lady, you are not going to embarrass yourself. (Kevin reached out and grasped her hand, squeezing it gently) You're going to shine…it's going to be your turn in the spotlight. And I am going to be right there, giving you the applauding and cheering with the rest of the audience.
Kevin: Thank you, Kevin. (She leaped up, surprising him with a hug) You’ve always been so supportive. You can’t know how much that means to me.
Kevin: Nina, anyone who has heard you play knows how talented you are. Your father must be very happy with all you've accomplished.
Nina: (shrugging) He is, I guess.
Kevin: You guess? Nina, you can't doubt that your father isn't very proud of you and is just as excited about the recital this weekend as anyone.
Nina: I think he is. But, Father is…well…
Kevin: (smiling knowingly) Let me guess. Your father isn't exactly forthcoming with the praise, right?
Nina: Pretty much.
Kevin: Nina, I've known your father for a long time. Longer than you, in fact. He's been here since before I was born. I think he was here when this house was built. (He smiled wryly) And the one thing I've learned is that he is a very reserved man. He keeps a lot of how he feels inside. I don't know why…it's just the kind of man he is. But, it doesn’t mean he's not proud or excited for you. And it certainly doesn't mean he doesn't love you very much.
Nina: I know. (Nina brushed strands of her long jet black hair behind her ear) I never doubt that Daddy loves me…and the rest of his children. I guess it hasn't been easy for him…raising us on his own after Mother died.
Kevin: You're right. But he did a good job. You and your siblings turned out pretty good. Well, I'll let you get back to work, Nina. Not that you need the practice.
Nina: I'm glad you think so, but I think I'll stick with it for awhile anyway. (She paused, hesitating) Can I ask you a question, Kevin? It’s kind of personal.
Kevin: Of course, sweetheart. What is it?
Nina: Do you like kids?
Kevin: Sure, I do. Why do you ask?
Nina: Well, have you ever thought about having children? Would you like to be a father someday?

Scene: Covington Bay
Florists. James Greyhawk and
Richie Stone
are there standing near a display of white roses.
James: Well, are you going to answer me, Richie? Why did you grab me like that?
Richie thought quickly, realizing he couldn't let James know he was aware of James' plans with Nikki, that would ruin everything.
Richie: I...I just wanted to know what is going on with you... why you were at the hospital today..
James: I wasn't at the hospital today.
Richie: Yes you were. I saw you on the ICU floor. You were going down a stairwell.
James: You must've been seeing things, Richie, I wasn't there. (James paused as something occurred to him) Wait. You were visiting Nathan in ICU? Why? What was he doing there, he was supposed to go back to jail. Shouldn't he be in jail by now? Or has he suffered some sort of relapse?
Richie: (growing more and more irritated) Are you going to stand there and pretend you don't know that Nathan had a heart attack and is lying in that hospital, fighting for his life?
James: (gasping) A heart attack? Are you serious?
Richie: Do you take me for a fool? You were on the ICU floor. You have to know what happened.
James: Richie, for the last time, I know nothing about this heart attack! This is the first I've heard about it.
Richie: Why are you lying? Why are you pretending you weren't at the hospital when I clearly saw you?

Scene: The Intensive Care Unit
of Covington Bay
Medical Center. Dr. Gloria Dailey and
Dr. Darian
Jackson are standing outside of Nathan James’s room.
Gloria: Darian, you can't beat yourself up like this.
Darian: Gloria, I made a mistake. I've done something…missed something. And because of it, Nathan could die.
Gloria: You can't say that. You have no idea what caused his heart attack.
Darian: A kid Nathan's age does not have a massive heart attack without there being some sort of prior medical problems. That means I did something wrong.
Gloria: Not necessarily, Darian. There are some congenital heart conditions that can remain undetected until they manifest themselves. (Pause) Look, I know you're upset about Nathan. He's a young man who has been through a lot of pain…more pain than someone his age should. He doesn't deserve what is happening to him. All of that has to be getting to you, but taking on all this guilt won't help Nathan. What will help is finding how this happened and getting him well.
Darian: I know that. I just hope Dr. Sloan can accomplish that…if he ever shows up. (Pause as Darian glances at his watch) Mama J. is here at the hospital with Miss Polly…the woman whose sons were attacked last night in Southtown.
Gloria: Yes. I know one of them died and the other suffered some severe head trauma. It’s a very sad situation. Both those boys were so young.
Darian: I know, but I've got to check on Mama J. If I know her, she's wearing herself out between sitting here with Miss Polly and keeping the restaurant going. I just hope I can convince her to go home and get some rest.
Gloria: (smiling) Good luck. Mama J. is a very stubborn woman. I've never seen anyone talk her out of something once she had her mind made up.
Darian: I know. But, I've got to try, right?
Gloria: Right. I'm going to take off for the day, Darian. I'll see you in the morning.
Darian: See you. Have a nice evening.
Gloria: After this day, it's going to be quiet and relaxing.
Darian: Then enjoy it.
Gloria: I will. Bye.
Darian: (walking away) Bye.
(Gloria watched as
Darian disappeared down an adjacent corridor. She then turned and saw Sabrina
coming towards her)
Sabrina: (smiling) Hey, Glo.
Gloria: Hi, Sabrina. (They kissed) What brings you here? Checking on your client?
Sabrina: Yes, but more than that, I need to talk to Darian Jackson. He around?
Gloria: You just missed him, but he'll be back in a few minutes.
Sabrina: Oh. Well, I guess I can talk to you in the meantime.
Gloria: Why? I hope it's not another problem. I've had my fill for one day.
Sabrina: It's about your divorce from Glenn. There's something you should know.
Scene: Lassiter
Pharmaceuticals; Steven's office. Steven, A.J. and Barton are there.
Steven: Look, this bickering amongst ourselves has got to stop and stop now, or we don't have a chance at stopping the Greyhawks. Fighting them together…as a family is the only way we're going to beat them.
Barton: That is what I'm proposing. We band together and we strike back…hard. But it seems A.J. here doesn’t have the stomach for it.
A.J.: I just don't want to lower myself down to their level by playing in the mud. All I want is to get them off our backs…prevent them from using the Times anymore than they already have to hurt this family.
Barton: And suppose we find a way to defeat them…to stop them? Then what? Do we just let them limp away and lick their wounds until they come after us again? And you know they will come after us again. No matter how many times we beat them…humiliate them, they always come back. And they'll keep coming back unless we completely finish them off this time.
Steven: Bart, you say that as if stopping the Greyhawks will be easy. But it won't, so how can you even think we can completely wipe them out?
Barton: I'm not saying it will be easy. The Greyhawks are tough. It won't be child's play to put them out of our lives once and for all. But we should do it. We should fix it so they can never come at us again. All we need is the perfect plan.
A.J.: And like I said, whatever it is, you can leave me out of it. I'll find a way to deal with the Greyhawks without your kind of dirty tactics.
Barton: (annoyed) You know something, nephew, your self-righteous attitude is really starting to wear thin with me. You're so concerned about your precious integrity and reputation when it's that the Greyhawks are trying to ruin. But more than that, as dubious as your talents may be, you've made a name for yourself in the journalism biz. You don't get at the top of the heap without stepping over a few bodies along the way.
A.J.: I have gotten to the top because of my skill as a reporter, not my ability to screw the other guy. I know that's hard for you to comprehend, Uncle Bart, but some of us like to play by the rules. Knowing that you've won and won fair and square makes the success all the sweeter.
Barton: You do sound more and more like your father every day. So odd since you hardly knew him.
A.J.: I may have never really known my father since he died when I was a baby, but I know of him, I know what kind of man he was. I know that I've always wanted and still want, to be like him.
Barton: Pity. Because if that's the case, then you really didn't know Johnnie Lassiter.
A.J.: (angrily) What is that supposed to mean?
Steven: (interrupting) It means that we are way off the subject here. Let's get to the matter at hand?
Barton: Why bother? A.J.'s made his position perfectly clear. He's not ready to deal with the Greyhawks the way they should be dealt with. That's fine. I don't need him...or any of you for that matter. I have handled and beaten the Greyhawks alone before.
A.J.: We know…and some of us have the scars to prove it.
(Barton glared at A.J.
as the telephone rang)
Steven: My secretary's already gone home for the day. (He answered it) Steven Lassiter. (Pause, as Steven looked stunned) Oh, hello. (Pause) Yes, I'm surprised…very surprised. I certainly didn't expect to hear from you.
Barton: (looking at his surprised brother) Steven? Who is that? What's going on?
Scene: The Lassiter
Estate; the library. Kevin and Nina are there. Harry is standing at the
doorway, listening.
Nina: Well, have you ever wanted to have children of your own?
Kevin: Nina, that's a strange question.
Nina: (blushing) And it's none of my business. (Pause) I shouldn’t have asked. I’m sorry.
Kevin: Nina, there’s no need to be sorry. It’s just that it’s not a question I get very often. Most people assume that because I'm gay I don't feel the need to have children.
Nina: But you are interested?
Kevin: I was…when I was with Alec. We even talked about adopting. Most people want babies and to be frank, given our wealth and our name, we probably wouldn’t have trouble getting one, but thought it would be better if we adopted older kids.
Nina: Why?
Kevin: Because they need a loving home more than a baby, who are easily adoptable. Most older children have been abandoned or abused or orphaned. Some of them probably have never known what it was like to be loved by a parent and have family. (Pause) Anyway, we discussed it and put it as something we'd do in the future. Of course, that's when we thought we'd have a future. (A wave of melancholy flashed across Kevin's face) Once Alec was diagnosed, any plans we ever made to do anything went out of the window. All we could do was think of the time we had…and cling to that.
Nina: (embarrassed) I'm sorry, Kevin. I didn’t mean to make you said… thinking about Mr. Stone, especially today.
Kevin: Nina, Alec is always on my mind…in my thoughts. And most of the time thinking about him doesn't make me sad. It makes me happy…because I think of all the wonderful time we had together. I think of the great life we shared. That could never make me sad.
Nina: You really did love him, didn’t you?
Kevin: (sighing heavily) More than anything.
Nina: And you don't think you'll ever feel that way again? You don't think you'll ever meet someone that you want to have a family with?
Kevin: I wish I could say that I'll meet someone like that again, someone who I will love so much he takes my breath away, someone I'll want to share my life…and the lives of a son or a daughter with, but I don't know.
Nina: But Mr. Lassiter, you're such a wonderful man. I don't believe you'll never find someone to love again, but even if you didn't, some lucky kid should have the chance to have you as father.
Kevin: Nina, you're going to make me blush.
(At that moment, the
telephone rang in two short rings, indicating it was a call from within the
house)
Nina: I'll get that. (She answered it) Hello?
Nikki's Voice: Nina, can you come up to my room?
Nina: Sure, why?
Nikki's Voice: I'll tell you all about it when you get here. Just come up, okay?
Nina: I'm on my way. (Nina hung up) I have to go, Kevin. Nikki needs something.
Kevin: You go ahead. (Pause) Nina, I appreciate the talk. I'm glad you think so highly of me.
Nina: It's not without reason, Kevin. (She kissed him on the cheek as Harry ducked into a nearby doorway) I'll see you later.
Kevin: (as Nina walked out) Bye. (Kevin stood there for a moment, thinking) I wonder, Alec, if we had gotten our family, what would they be like? How would our lives…my life be like now? I'll never know, I guess. Love and children…I don't know if that's in the cards for me. I just don't know. (Sighing, Kevin was about to walk out, but Harry walked in) Hello, Harry.
Harry: Hello, Kevin.
Kevin: If you're looking for Nina, she just…
Harry: No, I'm not looking for Nina. But, I am here to talk to you about my daughter.
Kevin: What about her?
Harry: I think there's something you and I need to get clear.
Scene: Covington Bay
Medical Center; the Intensive Care Unit. Sabrina and Gloria are outside of
Nathan's hospital room.
Gloria: (looking panicked) Oh, Sabrina, don't tell me there's a problem with this divorce? There isn't another road block is there?
Sabrina: (shaking her head) Oh, no. Everything is fine. The hearing is still scheduled for tomorrow morning.
Gloria: Great. So, what's the problem?
Sabrina: Glenn's attorney has requested to meet with me an hour before the hearing.
Gloria: Why?
Sabrina: I don't know. He didn't say. He just said we needed to clear up a few things before the hearing.
Gloria: I don't like the sound of that, Sabrina. Is Glenn up to something? Is he trying to pull something at the last minute?
Sabrina: He could be…or there could be a few details to take care of. (Pause) Don't worry. If Glenn is trying something, he's not going to get away with it. This divorce is going to happen, I promise you that.
Gloria: Oh, Sabrina, I have to be free of this man. I don't want him in my life anymore, especially after what he did today.
Sabrina: What did he do? Something I should know about?
Gloria: No, not really. It doesn't affect the hearing or the divorce, except to make me more determined than ever to be rid of him.
Sabrina: What happened?
Gloria: During the time A.J. was 'missing', I spent some time in his office. I was really upset and he hugged me to calm me down.
Sabrina: (groaning) Oh, I can see where this is going.
Gloria: Right where you think it will. Glenn sees this as an opportunity and he kissed me. He claims he was just trying to comfort me.
Sabrina: You are worried about losing your son and he thinks you need a good groping. What a jerk!
Gloria: To make matters worse, Zachary walks in and sees it. He gets upset and storms out. Now, he won't even talk to me.
Sabrina: Really?
Gloria: Yes. I thought maybe he was having a bad day or something, but if that were the case, Zachary would never freeze me out like that. He must be really upset about what he saw. I don't understand why, but he is.
Sabrina: (raising her eyebrows) You don't understand why Zachary is so upset about what he saw in Glenn's office?
Gloria: No. Should I?
Sabrina: Well, Gloria, I…
Darian: (walking up) Hey, Gloria…Sabrina.
Sabrina: Hi, Darian.
Gloria: Oh, hi, Darian. How is Mama J.?
Darian: Stubborn as always. She's leaving here to put in a night's work at the restaurant. I tell you that woman is going to run herself ragged.
Gloria: You're right, but I told you she wouldn't listen.
Darian: No, she won't.
Gloria: There must be someone who can fill in for her tonight.
Darian: There would be. Danny. He could stand in for Mama J. since it is his night off. The thing is, he’s nowhere to be found. He left the hospital this morning and hasn't been heard from since.
Sabrina: Danny's been gone since this morning?
Darian: As near as any one can figure. Mama J. said he left the hospital this morning for some appointment and he never came back.
Sabrina: Isn't that kind of strange considering Nathan's in the hospital fighting for his life?
Darian: Yes, but I doubt that Danny even knows that since Nate was still scheduled to be transferred to jail when he left the hospital.
Gloria: But, hasn't Danny been at Nathan's side since this start of this whole mess?
Darian: Of course. He's been practically glued to Nathan. The fact that he should choose now to pull a vanishing act is weird. Mama J.'s concerned. She thinks something is going on.
Gloria: Let's hope not. Nathan's going through enough already. The last thing he needs is for something to happen to his brother. Danny's all Nathan has.
Darian: I know. I'm hoping things turn out all right too. But with the luck those two have had, who can say? (Pause) Sabrina, what are you doing here? Checking on the progress of your client?
Sabrina: In a way. Darian, there are a couple of questions about Nathan I'd like to ask.
Darian: Sure. Go right ahead.
(At that moment, a
slender black woman walks past Darian, Gloria and Sabrina and walks up to
Nathan's room)
Darian: (seeing the woman about to enter Nathan's room) Excuse me, ladies. I have to find out what this is all about. (He walked up to the woman) Pardon me, what are you doing?
Woman: (turning to Darian, glaring coolly at him) I'm about to go into this room, anymore questions?
Darian: None necessary. Except who are you, and why do you think you can just walk into a patients room?
Woman: I really don't think
this concerns you. Excuse me. (The beautiful African-American started to
enter the room, but Darian grabbed her arm)
Darian: It does concern me. Now you want to tell me who you are and what is going on?
Woman: What I will tell you is to let me go, sir, or you are going to be very, very sorry.
Scene: Covington Bay
Florists. Richie and James are there.
James: Richie, I don't know what you are babbling about, but I was not at the hospital today. I haven't been there since I saw you there yesterday.
Richie: Well, you're lying and I don't understand why. I saw you and clearly as I'm seeing you now. What are you up to?
James: The only thing that's up is my patience. I have no intention of standing here and listening to this nonsense. What I will do is order up a bouquet of flowers and send them to Nathan with my condolences.
Richie: (angrily) Don't bother. We're not interested in anything from you.
James: I'm simply showing my concern for your friend.
Richie: Since when did you give a damn about Nathan.
James: Since he murdered my fiancée. That made him very important to me.
Richie: You take that back! Nathan did not kill Candice.
James: I know, he loved her too much, right? Save it, Richie, that line is old…and pointless. Look, I am concerned about Nathan's health. I want him to get well.
Richie: You expect me to believe that?
James: It's the truth. I want Nathan to get well because I want him to stand trial for what he's done. I want him to face the judge and the jury and be convicted of murdering Candice. I want him to pay for that crime. I want him to be strapped down in a chair and fried to a crisp. I want to see justice done. None of that can happen if he dies from this heart attack, so believe me, I want him alive and healthy…for awhile anyway.
Richie: That will never happen. Nathan will recover and he will be cleared of these charges when everyone realizes you killed Candice. And then you'll be the one facing justice.
James: Richie, give it up. The police have their man…Nathan James. And try as you might, you can't change that. Face it, Nathan's history. Maybe today…maybe tomorrow…maybe in a few months. But whenever it happens, he's finished. And if you continue siding with him, you will be too.
Richie: What is that, some sort of threat?
James: (smirking) Yeah.
I guess it is. (James grabbed his flowers) I'll see you later. (Pause)
Why don't you get some mums for old Nathan? I hear they really brighten up
the ICU unit. (James walked out)
Scene: Lassiter
Pharmaceuticals; Steven's office. Barton and A.J. watch as Steven talks in the
telephone.
Steven: Yes, I'll be certain to take care of that. (Pause) Don't worry. It'll be handled, I promise you. Bye. (Steven hung up, shaking his head) Wow. I surely didn't expect that.
Barton: Who was that?
A.J.: Yeah, Uncle Steve, what was that all about?
Steven: That was Kent Masters.
Barton: Kevin's secretary? Why would he be calling you? I thought Kevin wasn't even in the office today.
Steven: You forget Kent used to be Dad's secretary and he went to work for Kevin after Dad retired from the business a couple of years ago. Kevin heard from Dad and he asked him to pass on a message to us.
Barton: What?
Steven: Dad and Mom are leaving Ireland and returning to Covington Bay. They plan to be here by tomorrow evening.
Barton: But why?
Steven: Isn't it obvious? You said Dad got a copy of the Times. He knows we've got a crisis here.
Barton: Yes, but he doesn’t know the Greyhawks are behind this mess.
Steven: Bart, you know Dad is constantly surprising us with what he does and doesn't know.
Barton: Even still, he has to know I can handle the Greyhawks without him. I certainly have before.
A.J.: Yes, Uncle Bart, and we all know how that turned out.
Barton: (bitterly) Shut up, A.J..
Steven: Don't start you two. The last thing we need is for us to keep bickering, especially tomorrow night.
Barton: What do you mean? What's happening tomorrow night?
Steven: Dad is calling the entire family together for a dinner party.
Barton: Are you serious?
Steven: Oh yes. Kent is handling all the details. It's going to be at the mansion.
Barton: I don't believe this. This family is being hit from all sides by the Greyhawks and Dad wants to throw a party. Why? What is he up to?
Steven: I don't know, Bart. But I guess we'll all find out tomorrow night. (Pause) Oh, and it's black tie, A.J.. Get your tux out of mothballs.
A.J.: Sure, but I'm not too keen on this. I love Granddad to death, but dinner parties at the Lassiter Estate have always been affairs to forget. There's never been one without a fistfight breaking out before dessert. There's been less blood spilled at the O.K. Corral.
Steven: (grinning) Then put on your spurs and holsters your six guns, pardner, because Adam Lassiter is coming to town.
to be continued….
