EPISODE 75 “HI HONEY, I’M HOME” |
Scene: Covington Bay
Medical Center; the nurses lounge.
Melody
Sorensen and her sister Det. Angela Sorensen
are there. Angela is sitting next to
Melody on the sofa, holding the clipped out article of A.J.'s marriage to
Patricia in her hand. The homicide
detective is looking at her older sister in horror.
Angela: Melody, I can't believe you would even consider staying with A.J. after what he has done! You've got to end things with him and you've got to do it now!
Melody: (shaking her head) Angie, it's not that simple.
Angela: Really? It seems pretty simple to me. The man is married. He has been since the day you met him. He's been lying to you this whole time. I'd think that would be all you'd need to know to dump the jerk.
Melody: Come on, Angie, you know as well as I do that these things are never cut and dried. A.J.'s marriage to Patricia was in name only...worth no more than the piece of paper it was written on. He only married her because he got too drunk one night. It was never a real marriage. It didn't mean anything to him.
Angela: And who told you this? A.J.?
Melody: Yes.
Angela: And you don't find his credibility would a little suspect?
Melody: (standing) Look, I admit A.J. has done a horrible thing by lying to me. This hurts more than you could imagine. But, I can't just end things. I can't walk away from a relationship that has been so important in my life.
Angela: (standing to face her sister) Even it's based on deception? Mel, I know you love him, but he doesn't deserve that love. You've wasted three years on this relationship, how can you even consider wasting more?
Melody: I don't consider a day with A.J. a waste. My life with him have been some of the happiest days of my life.
Angela: But how important are you to A.J.? How could you mean anything to him when he could lie about something so important?
Melody: I believe A.J. when he says he loves me. He knows how upset I am about what happened...how badly he hurt me and he wants to do whatever he can to repair things between us.
Angela: And what about his wife?
Melody: He's divorcing her or getting an annulment or whatever it takes.
Angela: And when they get a divorce or annulment or whatever what happens then? Does A.J. marry you?
Melody: (hesitating) I don't...I don't know.
Angela: (raising her eyebrows) You don't know...or is that a way of saying A.J. has already ruled marriage out even after his dumps his current wife?
Melody: (exasperated) Angela, like I said, A.J. and I have a lot to work out.
Angela: Melody, A.J. has a problem making a commitment...and that's something you've always wanted with him. But I know you always held out hope that someday he’d come to his senses and marry you. Now you find out he already has a wife. Doesn't this make you see he never plans to marry you? So why stay in this relationship? Why not end things now and stop wasting your time with this loser!?
Scene: The Sheridan Street
Apartments; A.J.'s apartment. A.J.
Lassiter and his younger brother Det. Eric Lassiter were there. A.J. is standing by the door to his apartment
as Eric plops onto A.J.'s sofa, a wide grin on his face.
A.J.: Eric, I'm really not interested in anything you have to say about my life so why don't you just get out?
Eric: Come on, big brother, don't you want my congrats on your marriage? Patricia Tamakai is quite a stunner, even more than when we were kids. I realize my congrats is a little late, but I'm happy for you none the less.
A.J.: The only thing you're happy about is seeing me make a mistake.
Eric: (grinning) I must admit I got a rush from seeing your blunder make the front pages of the local rag. I'm thinking of making copies to send all my friends.
A.J.: You have friends? Someone in town must be desperate for company.
Eric: You really hate people knowing you're not the perfect golden boy you like to claim to be, don't you?
A.J.: I never claimed to be perfect. I'm well aware of my mistakes, but no matter what I've done, you can still be contented with the fact that you're still the loser in the family. Now, could you take off? I've got things to do.
Eric: You're really not very hospitable. How were you able to keep a wife and a girlfriend with that attitude?
A.J.: (irritated) For the record, my marriage to Patricia was in name only. It was a mistake I made when I was drunk. You know about making mistakes under the influence don't you? It's how you live your life.
Eric: I never did something so stupid as to get married.
A.J.: But I can only imagine some of the things you have done. (Pause) Now why don't you get out? I'm sure there must be a bar in town that's open this early.
Eric: Forget it, A.J., I'm not going. Not until I've had my say.
A.J.: You've said all I want to hear.
Eric: Really, A.J.? Because as far as I'm concerned, you and I are just getting started.
Scene: Covington Bay
Medical Center; the emergency room lounge.
Dr. Gloria
Lassiter-Dailey and Dr. Zachary Dailey
are there.
Gloria: Zachary, I don't get it...why are you so upset about what happened between me and your father?
Zachary: I---I just was so surprised. I couldn't believe it.
Gloria: Neither could I. It was just surprising to me as I'm sure as it was to you.
Zachary: I just can't believe that you would want to go back to him after everything he's done to you. Gloria, the man has made your life miserable. How could you even consider taking him back in your life...especially since you're so close to getting him out of your life for good?
Gloria: (stunned) Zachary, what are you talking about? What makes you think I want your father back?
Zachary: That is why you kissed him, isn't it? Wasn't it the rekindling of your relationship?
Gloria: Zachary, I...
Zachary: (interrupting her) Gloria, if you want my father back, there's nothing I can do about it. But don't expect me to be happy for you...especially since I know it's a terrible mistake.
Gloria: Where in the world did you get the idea that I wanted your father back...or that I even wanted him to kiss me!?
Zachary: Well, I.... (Pause as Zachary looks embarrassed) It's what he told me.
Gloria: Glenn told you I wanted that kiss? He told you we were getting back together!?
Zachary: Yes. I...
Gloria: And you believed him!?
Zachary: Yes, I did. Why shouldn't I after what I saw?
Gloria: Because you were mistaken, Zachary. You couldn't be more wrong.
Scene: Dana Cooper's home;
the bathroom. Dana is standing naked
before Danny
James, who is holding a towel out to her.
Dana: (screaming, her hands flying to her breasts) Get out! Get out! Get out! (She scrambled back into the shower, shielding herself with the shower curtain) You bastard, get out!
Danny: (smirking) You've never said that before when I held a towel for you after you showered. In fact, you used to love it.
Dana: That was a long time ago, Danny. Now get out of here before I call the police!
Danny: You want to call the police? Go ahead. You'd just have to get past me to do it.
Dana: (a trapped look on her face) Then just get out Danny! Just leave!
Danny: No, not yet. Not until we finish our business.
Dana: We have no business. I want nothing to do with you.
Danny: So you say, but I'm not giving you a choice. You're going to deal with me whether you like it or not. (He handed her the towel) Now come out of there. You being naked is a real...distraction.
Dana: (quickly wrapping the towel around her) I have nothing to say to you!
Danny: Oh, you're going to have plenty to say. You'll see.
(He headed for the door)
Dana: Where are you going!?
Danny: I'm going to fix some coffee. I know you can't think straight until you have your first cup. And I want your mind to be very clear when we get down to business.
Dana: (stepping out of the shower) And what makes you think I won't just call the cops and have you arrested for breaking and entering!?
Danny: Because you're not a fool. And I know you won't do anything until you find out why I've come. Now put on some clothes and meet me in the kitchen. You'll want to have all your wits about you for this one.
Dana: (as Danny walked out) No Danny, whatever you are up to, you won't get away with it. I'm going to get you out of my life once and for all...and I'm going to do it today.
Scene: Covington Bay Medical Center; the eighth
floor, outside of Nathan
James' hospital room. Abby Jefferson is
walking out of the room as Mama J.
approaches.
Mama J.: Hi, Abby. How's Nathan? Any changes?
Abby: (shaking her head) No. He's still unconscious.
Mama J.: Have the doctors said anything?
Abby: Actually, they haven't been by to check on him yet, but the nurse said Dr. Sloan would be here soon. I hope they find something...I hate seeing him lying in that bed like that. I just can't believe this has happened. Nate is so young...how could he have had a heart attack?
Mama J.: I don't know, honey, I don't know. But, the doctors will find out something and then he'll be all right.
Abby: (sarcastically) Just in time to go on trial for killing Candice Dailey.
Mama J.: Abby, I know things look bad...but it's going to be all right. Nathan will get through this. We'll see to it.
Abby: Well, none of us have done him a damn bit of good so far, have we? (Pause) And you know what's worse? The one person that Nathan needs most...his brother...has disappeared.
Mama J.: So no one has heard from Danny yet? That's why I'm here...I was hoping to find him.
Abby: Well, he's not here...nor has he been here since yesterday morning.
Mama J. I don't understand that. It makes no sense. Danny has been at Nathan's side since he was arrested. They've always been so close. I can't imagine why he'd take disappear now. He didn't even show up for work last night.
Abby: I know. Do you think we have reason to worry? Could something have happened to Danny?
Scene: Dana's home; the kitchen. Dana walks in wearing a pair of jeans and a
gray T-shirt. Danny is sitting at the
kitchen table, sipping a steaming mug of coffee.
Danny: There you are. What took you so long?
Dana: What if I told you I was calling the police?
Danny: I'd know you were lying. You know I wouldn't break into your house and surprise you in the shower without a reason. You want to know what that reason is and you're not going to do anything until you find out.
Dana: The truth is as much as that sight would thrill me, I don't want to have the neighbors see you hanging around here.
Danny: There was the time you didn't care what the neighbors or anyone else thought where I was concerned.
Dana: (bitterly) That was a long time ago, Danny, and I paid for that foolishness.
(She went to the
coffee maker and pulling a mug off the mug rack, she poured herself a cup of
coffee. She dunked three heaping
teaspoons of sugar in it and took a savoring sip)
Danny: Is strong enough? I know that's how you like it.
Dana: (frowning at Danny's familiarity with her) It's fine.
Danny: Then we can talk about why I'm here.
Dana: I'm surprised you'd even show your face around here or anyplace else.
Danny: I have nothing to hide…at least not lately.
Dana: You would deny things wouldn't you? That's okay for now. It's going to make this much more fun.
Danny: (grinning)
And what fun would that be?
You wouldn't be talking about my little surprise in your shower would you?
Dana: Not hardly.
Danny: (his eyes sweeping over her body) I do remember you used to like it. Of course back then I'd dry you off...if I didn't join you for a nice hot shower.
Dana: (embarrassed) That's not what I mean. I'm glad you showed up because we can settle things between us once and for all.
Danny: That's what I'm hoping for.
Dana: Good, because that is what you're going to get. I've wanted to do something to pay you back for all the pain you've caused me, Danny James. Now I've got the chance.
Danny: You've got the chance to make me pay for our rotten marriage? (He leapt to his feet) You've got that kind of twisted. You caused me a lot of misery.
Dana: Never were one to deal with the truth, were you, Danny? You have always absolved yourself of any blame for the hell of a marriage we had. You're not sorry for anything you've ever done in your life, but you're going to be sorry now.
Danny: What are you going on about, girl?
Dana: Okay Danny, let's just end this cryptic talk! I don't know why you came here, but I do know why you've been missing for the past day. It's because of Nathan.
Danny: (surprised) Nathan?
Dana: Don't play stupid, Danny! You're good at it, but you can't pull it off this time. I know what you did to Nathan. I saw you. I was there.
(Rage sweeping
over his face, Danny leapt up, grabbing Dana by the arm, gripping her tightly)
Danny: You just made a big mistake, little girl!
Scene: Covington Bay Medical Center; the nurses
lounge. Melody and Angela are there.
Melody: Angela, I know you're upset about finding out about this marriage, and I know you're only concerned for me, but don't be. I can handle this.
Angela: And how are you handling it, sis? By letting A.J. betray you in the one of the worse ways possible, but he still gets everything he wants?
Melody: I haven't given A.J. anything but the chance to fix things between us. I have to do that. I just can't walk away from a relationship that has meant so much to me. I love him.
Angela: But he doesn't deserve that love! He isn't worth any tears you've shed over him. I know it's going to be hard…but it's best that you end it now before he has the chance to hurt you even more. You can get over him just like Monica got over Eric.
Melody: Oh, Angela, this is hardly the same thing. Eric verbally abused Monica. He drank constantly, lied to her over and over, cheated on her with other women, ignored their daughter. A.J. has never been anything but good to me.
Angela: You call refusing to marry you and saying he wasn't ready for marriage when the real reason was that he already had a wife good?
Melody: Angie, A.J. has made a huge mistake. I know that. He knows that. He also knows there are no promises. We may not be able to work things out between us.
Angela: I don't see how you can. You want to get married. He doesn’t. That's not an emotional bridge you can cross.
Melody: But maybe it can change.
Angela: What do you mean?
Melody: It doesn't have to stay that way. Maybe this situation, maybe the chance of losing me will make A.J. realize how much he loves me, how important this relationship is to him and he'll see that marriage is exactly what he wants.
Angela: (surprised) You're hoping that out of all this A.J. will decide to marry you?
Melody: Yes.
Angela: (shaking her head) Sis, you're a bigger fool than I thought.
Scene: The
Sheridan Street Apartments; A.J.'s apartment. A.J. and Eric are there. A.J. is
closing the door to his apartment.
A.J.: Okay, Eric, you're obviously not going to leave until you have so say, so say it and get out.
Eric: (shaking his head) You never cease to amaze me.
A.J.: You're not the first person to say that to me. But I suspect you don’t mean it as a compliment.
Eric: Only you could do something so stupid and have it wind up on the front page for everyone to see, but you still walk around with this smug, self-righteous attitude as if you've done nothing wrong.
A.J.: Eric, I know what I've done, the mistakes I’ve made. I'm just not going to stand around and be lectured about my life by the likes of you.
Eric: No, you'd much rather be the one giving the lectures. I remember how you preached the virtues of a long, stable relationship when I was married to Monica. You kept telling me how I should be responsible, that I owed Monica and Vicki a nice home with a good husband and loving father.
A.J.: And you chose to ignore every word I had to say. You treated Monica like dirt and ignored a very sweet little girl. You nearly destroyed Monica with your abuse and your selfishness. Thank God she got out and finally found someone who treats her like she should be treated.
Eric: She's married to a Greyhawk! You think that's okay?
A.J.: Nigel’s a decent man, despite his last name. And he certainly has always treated Monica and Vicki well, the way they deserve.
Eric: (sarcastically) Like I didn't, right?
A.J.: You said it, I didn't.
Eric: You think you're so much better than me…that you can handle a relationship and I can't. (He shook the article in A.J.'s face) Well, this is proof that you can't. Everybody knows Melody wants to marry you! She can't wait to slap the shackles on your legs and start popping out those Lassiter heirs. But you've done everything to avoid marrying her. You wanted to have cake and eat it too. Besides, marrying Melody might bring your secret into the open. But thanks to your Asian beauty it did. And now I'm even more certain of what I've always thought about you, A.J.. You're a two faced hypocrite. You're a liar, you're a cheat and you're dishonest…everything you've always said I was.
A.J.: (shrugging) You done now?
Eric: You know what the worst part is? You'll get away with it. Melody might be pissed now, but she'll forgive you. I'm sure Mom is already thinking of a way to see how it wasn't your fault. You screw up and walk away squeaky clean while I'm seen as the scourge of Covington Bay. You've always thought you were better than me and so does everyone else…and it makes me sick!
A.J.: I know you'd love it if I became the town pariah, but that's not going to happen. The title is still yours. I've got a long way to go before I could be as pathetic as you. (Pause) Now I have had enough of this. You're slept in clothes and alcohol breath are stinking up the place. I want you out of here, Eric, and I want you out now.
Eric: I'm not done!
A.J.: Yes you are. (He grabbed Eric by the arm) Now are you going to leave our am I going to have to throw you out!? I'm sorry I let you in here! You're my brother but I can't stand the sight of you.
Eric: (icily) Let me go, A.J.. Get your hands off me.
A.J.: Eric, I… (Without warning, Eric punched his older brother, sending A.J. sprawling to the floor)
Scene: Dana's
home; the kitchen. Dana and Danny are there. He grabs her about the wrist,
shaking her.
Danny: You just made a big mistake, little girl!
Dana: Oh, are you going to beat me up, or kill me? Or maybe you'll give me the same drug you gave Nathan so I'll have a heart attack too!
Danny: (letting her go, stepping a few steps back) I had nothing to do with that!
Dana: So you know Nathan had a heart attack? I guess you would since you caused it.
Danny: Like I said, I had nothing to do with that!
Dana: Then where have you been since yesterday morning? Everyone in town has been wondering why you would vanish now…when Nathan needs you the most. But I know why. You caused his heart attack with that poison you gave him and you were afraid the police would catch onto you.
Danny: That's not why I haven't been around.
Dana: What other reason could there be? You are obviously hiding from something. The question is, why come here? Did you want to say goodbye before you slink out of town?
Danny: I'm not going anywhere, not yet anyway.
Dana: And you're a fool if you stick around here much longer. It's only going to be a matter of time before the toxicology report Darian Jackson ordered comes back. And it's going to confirm that Nathan's heart attack was drug induced. When the hospital tries to find out where the drugs would've come from, they will realize their own drugs were stolen and used on Nathan.
Danny: And you think that's going to lead to me?
Dana: Danny, I saw you come out of the room where the drugs are kept. And once the police start questioning nurses about the drug theft, naturally I'll recall what I saw.
Danny: (sarcastically) Naturally. But you're going to look like a fool if you even try that, Dana. I did not poison Nathan. And why would I? He's my brother…I don't want to see him dead.
Dana: Of course not, that wasn't your goal. You just wanted to make Nathan sick enough to stay in the hospital a few more days. I guess you gave him the wrong drug or you didn’t know what you were doing because he's going to be in there a lot longer than a few days…if he lives.
Danny: This is quite a story you've concocted.
Dana: It's no story, Danny, it's real.
Danny: Why in the world would I want to keep Nathan in the hospital a few extra days? What good would that do him? The trial would still take place.
Dana: It might…if Nathan were here to see it, but that wouldn't be the case.
Danny: (warily) And what does that mean?
Dana: It means that you planned to help Nathan escape from the cops and get out of the country so he'd never have to stand trial. Keeping him in the hospital was part of the plan because you could escape easier from there than from the county jail.
Danny: (shocked) You're crazy!
Dana: No, I just knew you were up to no good so I followed you to Lulu's where you met your friend Leo. I heard you planning the whole thing. Then, I followed you to the hospital and saw you go in the room where the drugs are kept. Nathan had his heart attack no less than an hour later…and you disappeared. It all adds up to me.
Danny: Well, I'm afraid you've made a mistake in your math.
Dana: Danny, don't bother denying what you were doing. I heard everything.
Danny: And you got quite an earful, didn't you? Did you have fun tagging me all over town, watching my every move?
Dana: So you finally admit you're guilty.
Danny: You're right about my plan to bust Nathan out of jail. I wasn't going to see him die in prison for something he didn't do. And he would die; he'd never survive behind bars.
Dana: Well that's too bad because it looks like it's going to happen. Nathan will either die in that hospital or he'll die in jail. And either way it's your fault. You've never been anything but trouble to anyone in your life, including that kid. I just thank God I won't have to worry about you anymore.
Danny: And what makes you think that?
Dana: Knowing what I know, what do you think? I'm going to use this information, Danny, to get you out of my life for good.
Scene: Covington Bay Medical Center; the emergency
room lounge. Gloria Lassiter-Dailey and
Zachary Dailey are there.
Zachary: (a stunned expression on his face) You thought A.J. had been kidnapped yesterday?
Gloria: (nodding) Yes. He disappeared from the hospital, his car was in the parking garage and one of the men who'd tried to kill A.J. the other night was believed to have been found in the area.
Zachary: Gloria, I'm so sorry. I can't believe you went through that. But A.J. is okay?
Gloria: For now. But who knows what could be next…A.J.'s life is a disaster waiting to happen. The problem is that's the way he likes it. (She sighed) But that's not the point of this conversation. You wanted to know what was behind that kiss with your father; that was it. I was upset about the fact that A.J. could be dead and your father, instead of thinking of what I was going through, chose to use the situation to his own advantage.
Zachary: (horrified) And he kissed you?
Gloria: Under the guise of comforting me.
Zachary: (gritting his teeth) That bastard! How dare he do this! You were vulnerable and upset about the possibility of losing a child and he thinks that's the time to put the moves on you!?
Gloria: Zachary, your father is a very selfish, self absorbed man. All he could think about was what he wanted. I'm sure my needs never entered into the picture.
Zachary: Well, he's
gone too far this time. I thought what he did last night was disgusting, but
this…! He is not going to get away with this! He is going to be very sorry this
time! (Zachary turned and stalked out of the room)
Gloria: (shouting) Zachary! Zachary! Oh, my God! I've got to stop him!
(Gloria raced out
of the room after her stepson)
Scene: Covington
Bay Medical Center; the fifth floor nurses station. Angela and Melody are
there.
Angela: Melody, I know you don't want to hear this, but A.J. will never marry you.
Melody: You can't be sure of that.
Angela: I know men…and I especially know men like A.J. Lassiter. He's no better than that brother of his.
Melody: You can't compare A.J. to Eric. They are nothing alike!
Angela: They're both liars and cheats who can't keep a promise to a woman they say they love. That's similar enough to make them candidates of men to stay away from.
Melody: Look, I'm the first to admit Eric is not husband material, but A.J. is. He's a decent, caring, loyal man. He'd make a good husband and a wonderful father.
Angela: And he has a wife who has the chance to find all that out.
Melody: Angela, I know you just want to help, but I am not giving up on A.J.. I can't, not until I know there's no chance that we'll work things out.
Angela: Do you know who you sound like? You sound just like Monica when she refused to give up on Eric despite the terrible way he treated her. Do you want to end up like her; emotionally devastated, left to raise a child alone?
Melody: That won't happen!
Angela: You're damn right it won't, not again! Not to another of my sisters. This has got to end now. I couldn't help Monica break from Eric, but I will help you break from his brother.
Melody: Don't you think that's my decision to make?
Angela: Right now, I think your decision making is a little faulty.
Melody: (as Angela turned to walk out) So where are you going? Is this conversation finished?
Angela: (pausing
before she walked out) This conversation may be done, but I’m not.
Melody:
What does that mean?
Angela:
You’ll find out.
Melody:
(as Angela walked out) That
didn’t sound good.
Scene: A.J.'s
apartment. A.J. is lying on the ground, rubbing his jaw as Eric stands over
him, grinning.
Eric: That was easy. I always thought you had a glass jaw, big brother.
A.J.: Don't count me out yet!
(A.J. lunged at
Eric, socking him in the face. Eric was knocked him backwards and over the
sofa. A.J. scrambled after him as Eric leapt to his feet. A.J. took a swing at
Eric, but the cop blocked the blow, then socked A.J. in the face twice and
kicked him in the gut. A.J. staggered, slamming into the wall behind him,
dropping to one knee, gasping for air. But as Eric came at him, A.J. leapt up,
plowing his head into Eric's belly. Surprised, Eric fell back towards a table
against the opposite wall. As he fell, he smacked his head on the side of the
table. He moaned, his head slipping under the table. At the sight of the blood
trickling from his brother's temple, A.J. gasped.)
A.J.: Eric!? Eric, are you all right!?
(But Eric wasn't
answering A.J.. He was too busy looking at the underside of A.J.'s table…and
the bug that was planted there)
Scene: Covington
Bay Medical Center; outside Nathan's hospital room. Mama J. and Abby are there.
Mama J.: Lord, I don't want to believe something could've happened to Danny. That's the last thing Nathan needs. It's the last thing any of us needs.
Abby: I know. Nathan needs his brother more than ever…and Danny has to know about the heart attack. I can't imagine anything but something terrible keeping him away.
Mama J.: I been worried about him ever since he had that fight with Eric Lassiter the other night.
Abby: You don't think he's been arrested do you?
Mama J.: No, I would've heard if that's the case. I'm just afraid he might do something to get himself arrested.
Abby: Like what?
Mama J.: I can't be sure. I just know that Danny was desperate to help Nathan out of this mess…and he didn't want to wait for his lawyers to prove anything in court.
Abby: But what could Danny do that his lawyers can't?
Mama J.: Unfortunately, I can think of lots of things. And if I can…so can Danny.
Scene: Dana's home;
the kitchen. Danny and Dana are there.
Danny: So tell me, you going to go the police with this information?
Dana: I might.
Danny: And what would stop you?
Dana: If you left town. If you disappeared from Covington Bay and never came back. That would be enough to keep me quiet.
Danny: Why not just go to the cops and have me hauled off to prison? You've got more than enough to prove I broke parole and have me put away for a nice long stretch.
Dana: I'd rather not do that.
Danny: Why not? It can't be for my welfare. My guess is that if you were to come forward, our relationship might come out in the open…and you wouldn't want that to happen.
Dana: Would anyone want it known that they're related to you in anyway? (Pause) But don’t think for one minute that I won't go the cops and let our sordid past become public knowledge if you don't agree to this. It might be embarrassing, but I'd survive. You wouldn't.
Danny: And you think you'd keep that boyfriend of yours if he knew the truth?
Dana: (smugly) Zachary already knows the truth. I told him we used to be married and why I kept it secret. He understood.
Danny: That must've been quite a tear jerking scene. I imagine you pulled out all the stops for that one.
Dana: I just made Zachary understand the hell I'd been through as your wife…and how I never wanted to relive it by having everyone find out. But as I said, I will unless you agree to get out of Covington Bay immediately.
Danny: I'm afraid I can't do that…not yet anyway.
Dana: If you need a couple of hours to pack, you've got it.
Danny: That's not what I mean. I'm not leaving Covington Bay, not until Nathan is well enough to leave with me.
Dana: But that won't be for a very long time. The drug you gave him caused a heart attack; he may not be able to be safely moved for weeks. I want you long gone before then.
Danny: Like I said, I didn't give Nathan that drug… or any drug.
Dana: And you expect me to believe you?
Danny: I don't care what you believe. Just know that I'm not going anywhere until Nathan can go with me.
Dana: And I told you that isn't going to happen. Either you leave town or I'm marching to that phone and calling the cops right now. Maybe I'll ask for Eric Lassiter. I'm sure he'd love to put you away again.
Danny: That isn't going to happen.
Dana: You don't think I'll do it?
Danny: I believe you would…which is why it's time I told you why I'm here. We never did get to that, did we?
Dana: Do I care?
Danny: You will. See, I came here because I need a favor.
Dana: I am doing you a favor by giving you a chance to get out of town before the boom is lowered.
Danny: That's not the favor I want. If you heard my conversation with Leo, then you know I need $10,000 to pay for Nathan's freedom.
Dana: I realize that, but what does that have to do with me?
Danny: Isn't it obvious? You're going to give it to me.
Dana: (grinning) You're joking.
Danny: Have you ever known me to joke?
Dana: I wouldn't give you bus fare, much less $10,000.
Danny: Yes, you will.
Dana: Why would I? To get rid of you? I can do that with a phone call that will cost me nothing.
Danny: You make that phone call and it will cost you everything important to you, especially your job and that rich boyfriend of yours.
Dana: And why is that? You can't hold our former marriage over my head. Zachary already knows about that. And if the rest the town finds out then so be it. At least you'd be out of my life.
Danny: Maybe. But what would your boyfriend and his family and the rest of Covington Bay say if they found out we weren't former husband and wife…but we were still married?
Dana: (shocked) What?!
Danny: Didn't you hear me the first time? You and I are still married.
